The built-in Messenger is a full chat platform: private chats, groups with roles and join requests, voice and video calls, media with spoilers and view-once photos, reactions, replies, scheduled messages, drafts that sync across devices, and a shared-services panel that ties collaboration to your deployments. It lives at /messenger as its own full-screen app with its own theme, and Back to Deployer always returns you to the platform.

Layout and conversation list
The screen splits into a sidebar (chat list, collapsible on desktop with Hide chat list) and the chat pane. Your avatar opens My profile; the ⋮ More menu holds New group, Join invite (join by invite code), Back to Deployer, and Services. The sidebar has two tabs — Chats and Public groups — and a Search users… field for finding people by username; each result offers Start chat and Add to contacts.
Conversation rows show the avatar (with an online dot, unread badge, or group corner icon), the title, a timestamp, and a preview line — the last message, a call label, a service event, an attachment, or your own italic Draft: …. Right-clicking a chat opens its context menu:
| Item | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| Pin / Unpin | Pinned chats sort to the top |
| Mark as read | Clears the unread badge |
| Clear messages | Empties the conversation on your side |
| Block user | Private chats — the user can no longer message you |
| Delete chat (both sides) | Private chats, destructive |
| Leave group / Delete group | Group chats, role-gated |
Public groups never list by default — type to search. Results show the member count and description, with an approval chip when joining needs admin approval, and a Join or Request button. Your outgoing requests are tracked under My join requests with PENDING / APPROVED / REJECTED chips and a Cancel action while pending.
Messages: types and features
The chat pane renders everything you would expect from a modern messenger, plus a few extras. Each message supports text with @mentions (clickable to open the profile), inline code and fenced code blocks with a copy button, quotes, spoiler text (a blurred chip you tap to reveal), images with a GIF chip, videos, circular video messages, voice messages with a waveform player, audio files, and generic file cards with download progress. Around them:
• Reactions — ten emoji (👍 ❤️ 😂 😮 😢 🔥 👏 🎉 🤔 👎) as chips under the bubble; click to toggle.
• Replies and forwards — quote blocks jump to the original; forwarded messages carry "Forwarded from {username}".
• Edits and deletes — your own messages, with an edited label after edits.
• Read receipts — a clock while sending, one check when sent, two blue checks when read; clicking the ticks opens the Seen by dialog with Read / Unread tabs.
• Scheduled messages — a Scheduled · date label with a red Cancel link while the message waits.
• Spoilers and view-once media — spoiler images blur until tapped; view-once photos show a placeholder card that opens a 15-second, countdown-guarded preview, then disappears.
• Day separators and jump-to-date — clicking a date chip opens the Jump to day calendar; blue days have messages.
• Big emoji — one to three emoji render large, and a single emoji plays as an animated sticker.
• Typing indicators — "is typing…" in the header with the three-dot bubble.
The message context menu (right-click or long-press) contains Select (multi-select for Reply / Forward / Delete), Reply, React, Forward, Pin message, Copy text, Seen by, per-attachment Preview / Download, Download all (N), and for your own messages Edit and Delete. Pinned messages float in a bar above the list with a position counter (1/3) and arrows to step through them.
The composer
The composer is where most of the power lives:
• Enter sends on desktop (Shift+Enter for a newline); ArrowUp with an empty composer edits your last message.
• Attach (📎) opens a color-coded menu — Photos, Videos, Audio, Files, All, plus Camera on mobile.
• Emoji (🙂) is a full picker with search, categories, and skin tones.
• @mentions autocomplete from group members and contacts.
• Formatting shortcuts — Ctrl+Shift+S for spoiler, Ctrl+E inline code, Ctrl+Shift+E code block, Ctrl+Shift+Q quote; the same live in the text right-click menu.
• Pending files strip — thumbnails with per-file remove, Spoiler and View once privacy chips per media item, and the Send all in one message checkbox.
• Code workspace — a multi-file code editor (file tabs, language presets, syntax highlighting, right-click editing shortcuts, Preview, and Send as file) for pasting real code instead of mangled text.
• Schedule (clock) — pick a date and time; the message stays only on your side until then, and Cancel removes it for everyone.
• Recording — hold the mic/camera button to record a voice message or a circular video note; slide up to lock, slide left to cancel.
• Drafts — per-conversation text drafts are saved locally and synced across your devices; the sidebar previews them.
